A practical MCP workflow
Resolve entities and review Wikidata statements with MCP
Search the name in the chosen language, compare candidates and inspect an exact Wikidata Q ID. Retrieve statements for a specific P-property and preserve typed values, editorial ranks, qualifiers and source references. Use source context to interpret the record; a Wikidata statement is not independently verified fact and an entity label is not an identity proof.
Built for: Researchers and AI agents disambiguating named entities and checking structured source records.
What to connect
Create a ToolCargo account and use OAuth or an API key with a supported MCP client. Hosted connectors share your plan’s call quota; connect each required MCP endpoint separately. Review provider permissions before starting.
Run the workflow
1. Resolve the name in its language
Use wd_search_entities with English or Arabic text and compare returned labels and descriptions. Similar names can describe different people, places or works. Record the exact Q ID and original source link before selecting a candidate.
2. Inspect the exact entity
Call wd_entity_details with that Q ID and language. Preserve the selected language, source revision and modified time when supplied. Missing localized labels or descriptions remain missing; a linked Wikipedia page is a source pointer rather than a completed article read.
3. Choose a precise property
Use wd_entity_statements with an exact property ID, such as P36 for a capital, P17 for a country or P50 for an author. Read one bounded page and preserve each value’s datatype, rank and snak type. Qualifiers can describe dates, scope or other conditions; references identify recorded sources rather than prove they were independently checked.
4. Keep source context with the result
Request nextOffset explicitly if more statements are needed. Record output truncation and omitted qualifiers/references; revisit the original item and property before drawing a conclusion. Entity metadata and statements are separate source requests, so do not assume they share the same revision or form an atomic snapshot.
A prompt to try
Search for Egypt in Wikidata in English and Arabic, inspect the selected country’s exact entity ID, then review its P36 capital statements. Preserve recorded entity IDs, ranks, qualifiers and references and explain which source context is missing or truncated. Do not assume a matching label proves identity or that a preferred statement is independently verified.
What a useful result looks like
Query and language → chosen Q ID and source link → localized identity metadata and revision → requested P-property → typed statement values with ranks, qualifiers and references → missing or truncated context → source checks remaining. Keep unknown and no-value statements separate from absent properties.
Know the limits
Read-only selected metadata from fixed Wikidata public APIs. No free-form SPARQL, editing, authentication, Wikipedia article reads, file downloads or followed source URLs. Search candidates do not establish identity. Statements and source records can change; preferred rank is editorial status, not a guarantee of truth. Entity revision metadata does not pin a separate statement lookup.
Common questions
Does a preferred rank prove a statement is correct?
No. It is an editorial rank within Wikidata. Review the qualifiers, sources and actual evidence.
Is an unknown value the same as a missing statement?
No. Wikidata distinguishes a known statement with an unknown value, a no-value statement and an absent property.
Does this read the referenced websites?
No. References are source metadata and pointers only. Review the original sources separately.
