Eurostat European Statistics — tool reference

Compare country statistics with units and source flags intact.

Server URL: https://toolcargo.com/mcp/eurostat · Scope: connector:eurostat. Activate Site Audit free and connect with ToolCargo OAuth or a scoped API key. No Eurostat account, provider key or paid provider. Each successful series or profile operation uses one shared-plan call.

eurostat_country_series

input
{ "indicator": "unemployment_rate", "countries": ["DE", "FR", "EL"], "startYear": 2022, "endYear": 2024 }

Choose one curated indicator, 1–5 unique exact uppercase EU-27 country codes and an explicit inclusive range of 1–10 annual years, from 1990 through the current UTC year. Greece is EL. Arbitrary countries, aliases, aggregates, regions, datasets, units and frequencies are unsupported. The operation fetches one filtered slice containing at most 50 requested country/year rows; there is no automatic latest-period selection or hidden pagination.

eurostat_country_profile

input
{ "countries": ["DE", "FR", "EL"], "year": 2024, "indicators": ["unemployment_rate", "population_jan1", "gdp_current_eur"] }

Choose one year and 2–3 unique indicators; omitting indicators selects all three. The same country bound applies, with at most 15 requested rows across sequential source slices. Each slice keeps its own source update time and units. A failed slice fails the profile; it is not silently dropped. Profiles are not atomic cross-dataset snapshots and do not rank incompatible units against one another.

Definitions and units

  • unemployment_rate: dataset UNE_RT_A, annual A, ages Y15-74, total sex T, unit PC_ACT: unemployment as a percentage of the labour-force population. Not a monthly or seasonally adjusted series.
  • population_jan1: DEMO_PJAN, annual, total ages and sex, unit NR: persons on 1 January, not a yearly average or forecast.
  • gdp_current_eur: NAMA_10_GDP, annual, national-accounts item B1GQ, unit CP_MEUR: GDP at market prices, current prices, in million euros. Nominal totals are not real growth, PPP or per-capita GDP.

Values are not rescaled, converted or estimated. Source unit/category codes and available labels are returned separately from ToolCargo’s preset definitions.

Missing values and source flags

Source category order can differ from request order. ToolCargo validates category positions and flattens the JSON-stat cube into explicit requested country/year rows. valueState distinguishes observed, missing_observation and category_not_returned; null never means zero. Missing requested countries and years are also listed. A valid empty cube means no observations were returned for that request at observation time, not that population or GDP is zero.

statusRaw preserves the exact observation status. flags pairs the exact code with its source label when present. A compound/unknown code without an exact label stays unknown. Provisional values, time-series breaks and differing definitions can affect comparison. Missing flags do not establish finality or comparability; review source metadata before interpreting trends. Linked metadata and footnote pointers are never fetched.

Source identity and freshness

Returned dataset ID, agency, language, fixed dimension codes and country/year subsets are verified. Upstream does not echo the complete requested query. Requested filters and returned categories are disclosed separately. Source updatedRaw and validated updatedUtc describe the dataset update, not the observation year or fetchedAt. Structure/dataflow versions are not immutable observation revisions; the source does not provide data history. Each slice is fetched without result caching and cacheHit is false.

Labels are inert plain text: HTML/unsafe elements are removed, controls and whitespace normalized, dataset titles capped at 500 characters, category labels at 200 and flag labels at 300, with missing/truncation signals. Unrequested annotations, raw DOI XML and linked files are omitted. DOI pointers require matching validated source markup; missing DOI metadata stays null. Unreviewed copyright, ownership or reuse notices fail the request pending policy review.

Attribution and reuse scope

Preserve the returned Eurostat dataset datacode link, access date and source update timestamp. This is a modified selection and projection by ToolCargo: fields are selected/renamed, the cube flattened, missing values made explicit and labels normalized/bounded. Eurostat is not responsible for this modified projection. No Eurostat endorsement or blanket CC0/clearance claim is made.

Current Eurostat policy permits commercial and non-commercial statistical-data reuse with source acknowledgement, subject to individual notices and exceptions. Third-party works, foreign-source data, countries outside permitted groups and some trade data have restrictions. This connector exposes only reviewed non-trade EU-27 presets; it does not grant reuse permission for arbitrary Eurostat material. Review the current policy and dataset notices before further reuse.

Provider bounds

Only fixed HTTPS Statistics API JSON slices are requested, with an identifying support contact, shared 60-second abandoned-lease recovery and at least 1.1 seconds between upstream starts. Responses are capped at 2 MiB and 15 seconds; an operation at 35 seconds. Requests are sequential, respecting source-directed cooldown. No retries, redirect following, async polling, downloads, arbitrary links, accounts or ToolCargo credential forwarding. The source’s fair-use system can defer requests; no numeric request quota or availability guarantee is claimed.
